Twelve students: Matthew (second part):

Peter says, "And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; and they crucified him, and killed him. God raised him up on the third day, and made him manifest." Not against the whole nation, but against the witnesses which God had foreordained, that is, against us who ate and drank with him after his resurrection from the dead. And he commanded us to preach in the nation. And bear witness that this is the one whom God has appointed to judge the living and the dead. " And so Peter says that he has chosen us to be apostles and preachers. Jesus chose the first twelve and then the seventy, as you remember, and then when it comes to appointing future workers, the Bible says Jesus said, "So the Lord of the harvest Pray that he will send laborers to reap his harvest. " You see, Christian service is not really a matter of hiring, it is a matter of divine appointment. Even during Paul's ministry we read, "Why preach until they are sent?" And who is the sender? God. Nowadays it is strange to see so many people running around for no reason when God did not send them, and they call themselves servants of God when God did not appoint them to be servants. They begin the work of service on their own when there is no call to serve God in their lives. Unless God puts this in your heart, prepares you, trains you, and makes you sensitive to the voice of the Holy Spirit, do not begin the work of ministry. And Jacob said, Let every man be swift in hearing, slow in speaking, slow in wrath. And he said, "My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we which are teachers shall receive the greater condemnation." If God calls you to serve, prepare yourself for that call and obey that call. But do not do the work that God did not call you to do. God appoints us through Jesus Christ. And we find a clear indication of this in the New Testament. Ephesians 4:11 I have written concerning the beginning of the church: "And he made Christ himself, some apostles, and some prophets, and some evangelists, and some shepherds and teachers." They were appointed by Christ. Then the Greek word used for the first part of 1 Corinthians 12b 28a. This means that God has appointed them as watchmen, evangelists and teachers in an orderly fashion. So God Himself chooses those who can lead people for Him. Now in this text we see the same thing, once again God is making a choice. Some may force us to admit that Peter is making this choice for himself, which is leading the church to error. I am not prepared for a moment to believe that God will base His church on a wrong choice and not say anything about it. I can't even imagine that when the Lord had given them clear instructions until 11 a.m., they would still choose the wrong person and mix everything up. I don't see anything like that. Moreover, if it is true that there is a prophecy in the Old Testament about someone else taking Judah's place, then this move is justified. We believe that everything that is happening here is happening by the will of God, and we also believe that Peter spoke with the guidance and motivation of the Holy Spirit when he replaced Judas Iscariot.
