ledge the Holy Spirit has given to us (Ancient Hebrew; 1 Sam 16:13; 2 Cor.1:22)

  2. “Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and anointed us is God, who also sealed us and gave us the Spirit in our hearts as a pledge (2Cor 1:21-22).”
  3. In this verse, the Greek word Arrabon, Pledge, is the phoneticized translation from Hebrew Aerabon meaning “pledge,” “security” from the Heb. verb Arav meaning “He pledged, “He mortgaged,” “He gave pledges,” “He exchanged (in trade; Strong-Lite)
  4. This word seemed developed to depict traders’ business transaction between commodity supplier and wholesaler or producer and merchant to make sure of their business contracts among Arabian merchants (cf. “mixed company,” literal meaning must be “Arabian merchants” Ex12:38; Ahn). And this kind of act seemed to be done during sunset or in the evening, for the same consonants Arav were used to mean “become evening, “grow dark.” Noun form of it is “Erev meaning “evening.”(DBD)
  5. Usually whenever business men make an important contract they used to eat together inside a tent in the evening, which means the business partner are welcomed and treated as a dear guest like one of family member in the ancient Near East.

  13. In ancient near East, including China, Korea, the meaning of “the one inside the house” commonly mean “someone’s wife.” Therefore, husband used to be called “the one outside the house.” If one interprets it in accordance of this language culture, he can interpret the word in following way:

  15. # This kind of interpretation is quite natural, for becoming a surest business partner is to get married a daughter of a partner. This culture seemed applied to a political peace treaty between two nations, therefore, King Solomon had to have 700 legal wives that was from making peace treaties with 700 nations. In here the getting a wife of King Solomon was like a sure token of pledge for making a peace treaty with a nation.

  23. 1. Pledge or security is something He knew the one in the house and build up a tent (Vav) for his sprouted seed (Nun, in Heb. Son, Ben, meaning “sprouted seed in the house”).
  24. 2. The Sure sign of pledge is to get married a woman in the house and produce a son (inheritor). 
  25. What is the significance of being anointed by the Holy Spirit? It is like to receive a sure reserved pledge for future fulfillment of God’s princely blessing. Spiritually speaking anointing is like being a bride of Jesus our bridegroom (Matthew 9:15). It had filled in the life of King David, and manifested in the life of Messiah Jesus for all the peoples on earth, and it has inherited to Christians (anointed ones), the disciples of Jesus. “As many as received Jesus, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name (John 1:12).”
  26. Blessed are those who receive the anointing of the Holy Spirit, the sure heavenly pledge guaranteeing for the on-going future fulfillment of princely blessing from now on.
