Prayers of God:Introduction
There are two most important activities in a believer's life that he should do without hesitation. These are two strong pillars on which the daily life of a believer depends. The first is reading the Word of God and the second is praying. As the apostles also confessed in Acts 4: 6, "But we will continue in prayer and in the ministry of the Word." In prayer we talk to God. And when we read the Word, God speaks to us. These two elements are a combination of the relationship between God and man. And that is why the Bible instructs us to engage in these two activities at all times. We have to study the Bible daily like we eat. We have to share with God every day.
Concerning prayer, the apostle Paul said, "Pray without ceasing." The apostle Paul said, "Pray and pray in the Spirit at all times and in all ways." The New Testament tells us, “Let your petitions be made to God in thanksgiving in prayer and supplication in all things.” We must pray at all times. I have to get down, focus on Him and live the Word. These two things then become the most important part of a believer's life. Listening to God's voice through the Bible and talking to God in prayer. One of the two is the most ongoing activity in the life of the believer: George Miller, the great man of prayer. No matter how much time he spent in prayer, George Miller replied, "I live in the spirit of prayer. I pray while walking, I pray while I lie down, and I pray when I get up in the morning." I keep getting answers to these prayers. ”Praying was George Miller's way of life.
Our Lord knows this. He knows very well that prayer should be our way of life. We see the Lord stop in the middle of His Sermon on the Mount. In this Sermon on the Mount, the Lord Jesus Christ compares the false religious values of the Pharisees and the scribes with the true values of God. In this sermon he instructs people on how to pray for those who call on his name. Prayer is very important. If prayer is a way of life for us, then it is very important for us to be aware of the way we pray. In fact, we find the same pattern of prayer in the Gospel of Luke, which Jesus gave in answer to the question, "The Lord taught us to pray." If we are to pray incessantly, then we must know the right way to pray. So the Lord teaches us to pray.
Consider what he does not teach us. He does not teach us what our physical condition is when we pray, because prayer can be done in any way. In the Bible we see people standing and praying, raising their hands and praying, sitting, kneeling, raising their eyes, bowing, bowing their heads to their knees, beating their breasts, facing the temple. Etc. etc. There was no specific method or style.
Notice that he did not teach about a particular place to pray. In the Bible we see people in wars, in caves, in closed cells, in gardens, on mountains, on rivers, in seas, in houses, in temples. 1 Timothy says, "Let men pray everywhere." In the Bible people have prayed on beds, in houses, in fish bellies, on rooftops, in prisons, in solitude, in the desert, on the cross, and so on.
He does not teach us when to pray. I find people in the Bible who prayed early in the morning, prayed three times a day, prayed in the evening, before meals, after meals. Prayed in the ninth hour, prayed in bed, prayed in the middle of the night, prayed day and night. In childhood, in old age, in joy, in trouble, today, tomorrow and always prayed.
Jesus did not teach us about a particular time, place or style. There are also people who consider it necessary to wear a prayer shawl while praying. Today, Jews wear special clothes to pray. But we see in the Bible that people prayed in all kinds of clothes and situations. Sometimes people cover themselves with sackcloth, sit in the ashes, sometimes shave their heads, pat their breasts, run, put dust on their heads, tear their clothes, fast, sigh, torment, shout loudly. I wept, shedding blood instead of sweat, with broken hearts, with broken souls, pouring out my hearts, making vows, making sacrifices, worshiping, singing and praising the Lord.
The problem is not with these things. It is appropriate to pray in any style, at any time, in any place, in any situation and in any dress because prayer is a way of life. Prayer is a public fellowship with God that continues all the time. Sometimes it is more focused and intense than other times, but prayer is a way of life. And if this is the way to live, then we need to understand how to pray, and that is why Jesus teaches us here. This prayer provides us with an outline for our prayers.
