- “And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters (KJV)” This writer is in wonder over what kind of moving of the Spirit of God? Is it the gentle hovering (Syr. schweben) of the Spirit of God? Is it for the life-giving, animating, and creative moving on the earth? Hebrew ruaḥ means “wind, breath, spirit.” Wind reappears as the agent by means of which the water is separated in OT (Gen 8:1; Exo 14:21). Wind often functions as a divine agent in the sense of God’s creative, life-giving, sustaining energy symbolizing His presence. The Elohim is animating the earth with His spirit. The Hebrew verb @x;r' (rahap) appears in Deuteronomy 32:11, where it describes an eagle hovering over its young(cf. Jeremiah 23:9). The motion, which is the essential element in change, originates with God’s dynamic presence (WBC). Rahap I, grow soft, relax (Jer 23:9). II, hover. This verb Occurs only in the Piel (Gen 1:2; Deut 32:11). (Strong 7363) III. Rahaf. vb hover; Syr. move gently, also cherish, and brood, cf. Rahaf [Dt 32:11 (poem) of vulture hovering over young; Gn 1:2; hovering over face of waters, or (v. Syr.) brooding (and fertilizing or incubating; DVD). Then, what do ancient Hebrew picture letters describe the action of (Rahaf, “He moved” or “He hovered”) of the Spirit? Resh, R, human head, human, worshipper Chet, Ch, Temple of God Pe, P or F, mouth of man, verb, speak, talk Attempt to interpret: by taking Elohim as subject. 1. God was with the earth expecting a man in the temple who is praying. 2. God brooded a man who will be praying in the temple. 3. God
moved gently toward a man who will be teaching in the Temple. 4. God saw his future vision of making a man who will be speaking in the Temple. At this moment (Gen 1:2) human beings were not created yet. Therefore, these picture letters seem to describe the ultimate purpose of making the earth. The earth is supposed to be the human abode that is full of worshippers of God in the Temple. The Spirit of God is brooding the earth so that it can grow gently toward a perfect human abode, which will be the Temple of God. For God’s presence will be with human, worshippers on earth, who are speaking (praying, praising, having intimate friendship)
